Tech Takeover: Winning hearts & minds in technology retail

This month we teamed up with our tech colleagues for a Tech Takeover campaign. Technology retail is a key sector which has experienced significant growth since the pandemic. As consumer habits shifted towards new ways of working and consuming entertainment from home, sales in technology were on the rise. Today, there are still huge opportunities for brands and that’s why we decided to make this our focus for November.

We kicked off the campaign with a series of day in the life videos from some of our colleagues. We followed their daily routine and shared an insight in to what their role really involves. This included colleagues working with our client partner brands Beko, Microsoft and Intel - featuring a variety of roles from Digital First Trainer to Retail Expert and Territory Manager. Although the pandemic influenced the need to work from home, it’s great to see many of our tech colleagues adopting a hybrid approach. As stores have re-opened they are able to engage with retail colleagues in person again, combining this with a mix of virtual sessions and online content.

As the tech industry strives towards more diversity, women in technology is a focus here at McCurrach. We are delighted to have a number of talented female colleagues who have secured key management and leadership roles within the business as we work to close the gender pay gap. We interviewed Lindsay Hey, our Customer Development Director who leads our Technology retail teams, Alicia Smith, EMEA Readiness & Influence Operations Manager for Microsoft at McCurrach and Sonam Kumari, Development Manager for Microsoft at McCurrach about what being a female in tech means to them. Adapting recruitment styles, upskilling women in the team and celebrating role models have all lead to positive changes over the last few years. Today, we’re proud that our gender diversity is a 40% female split for Management roles, a 20% female split for Territory Managers and a 20% female split for Evangelist roles. We aim to ensure we’re improving this year on year as we align ourselves with the rest of the leaders in the industry.

This month’s webinar showcased the theme of ‘18 months on: Winning hearts and minds in retail through digital transformation,’ hosted by our tech experts. Our speakers Lindsay Hey, Customer Development Director, Greg Nichols, Evangelist Lead for Microsoft at McCurrach, Lucy Croucher, Account Manager for Beko at McCurrach and Gavin Veevers, Account Manager at Wave shared how to harness a customer-centric approach whilst achieving a winning digital strategy!

As our technology retail teams continue to grow, we have been delighted to shine a spotlight on to the sector and some of the work being done by our fantastic colleagues. Throughout the campaign they have cemented the importance of digital transformation and highlighted the opportunity for brands when it comes to new ways of working and engaging customers with the right content.

Special thanks to all our colleagues who participated in our Tech Takeover campaign. We appreciate you support and the amazing work you do at McCurrach to drive us forward in this exciting sector.
